The Fredericksburg Shrine Club was organized at a dinner meeting on October 9, 1946, at the old Princess Anne Hotel. The Club’s first president and chief organizer was Noble John D. Hamilton. Throughout the 62 years much of the history has been lost, the club has held its meetings at local restaurants and shops in Fredericksburg, VA. Our membership is made up of nobles that hail from ACCA and KENA. Fredericksburg has many residents that commute north and south and is the line that divides the territory between these two great temples. Our regular meetings are held on the first Monday of the month with a 6:00 p.m. social / 6:45 p.m. meal / 7:30 p.m. meeting. Throughout the past couple of years, we have been visiting and nurturing a relationship between the other clubs that exist in our region (Heritage Shrine Club & Battlefield Shrine Club). We continually hold Screening Clinics with our local orthopedic doctors to help children be assessed to see if they are eligible for treatment at our Shriner’s Children Hospitals. We also hold a regular Shrine Club Picnic, which in the past few years has been some fine crab pickin! There is a Paper Drive held every year at our local Wal-mart, that helps us talk with individuals ranging from doctors to country folk we share the information about the Shrine, and the Hospitals collecting donations which are later matched by Wal-mart through their matching grant program. As a fraternal fundraiser we have been selling water, chips etc. at a local concert series that is held oudoor called the Bluemont Concert Series! As age and failing health creeps up on our membership, we continually look for new ways to attract members to our club and temple, while maintaining connections to those that have been our previous leaders and brother Nobles. Our challenge is great as we all strive to build upon our mentorship abilities.
